In 2009 Investa Property Group established the Investa Sustainability Institute to facilitate action research for sustainability in the built environment. ‘Action research’ combines the pursuit of action and research outcomes at the same time.

Investa operates a large portfolio of occupied commercial office buildings in Australia. The group also manages a large pipeline of residential, commercial and industrial development projects and a portfolio of property investment funds.

These assets are the real world ‘testing ground’ where promising ideas, investments in technology and non-technological interventions can be applied and analysed by researchers working with the Institute.

The Institute aims to be a collaborative venture between Investa and organisations with shared interests including academic, industry and professional bodies and government organisations. It is Australian-based and collaborates internationally.
